Mockingbird - ALCHEMICAL
Inspired By: The Fall of the House of Usher
I thought I heard it
The last call of the mockingbird
My palms were ruined
By the mud of my yester years
Bloody slit on my lip
I walk through the trees again
Led by the call of the mockingbird
Leading me to my end again
Faces on these walls
Staring at me with empty eyes
Whispers impaired my hearing
Haunting every second of sleep at night
Intrusions turn into memories
I cry red tears at the sight
Of those who would wish me dead
If they knew I was alive
A shrouded mystery it was
Running wild through my veins
Questions curse my thoughts
Is it worth the danger again?
And all at once
The mockingbird recalls my many names
Speaks in riddles like punishment
Sweat burrowing through my rage
I licked the bowl clean
And savored every bit of pain
That drove me to that house
Demanding my faith be retained
I thought I heard it
The last call of the mockingbird
Told me it would be worth it
Throwing my peace into the hearth
Like islands that I swam to
Washing off the blood and dirt
I recall the faulting cries
That might have otherwise hurt
The mockingbird trusts me
And I live through its conscience
So I become one with the lives
That I took as payment.
