Crossroads - The Fall of the Blackbird

There were broken candlesticks
At the altar where they laid me to rest
The sanctity of the blood spilled blue
Burned to ashes on my bed

I stand barefoot at the crossroads
Debate which turn will hurt more
Dressed like confetti in the middle of the war
Barricaded between choosing and losing a son

When does this provoked rivalry end?
Is it worth every bit of danger again?
Send him a sign from the heavens he needs guidance
Shimmering jealousy blinds the purest of souls
Both my boys were susceptible

I stand barefoot at the crossroads
Decided that I've lived for too long
I've outlived my counsel and my words crumble
As they leave my fingers, on my tongue they linger

"They need you now Dowager Queen"
They whisper like it means something
I'm intoxicated by my grief
I say it pains to leave but to run is to be free

The clang of swords and the crowd explodes
No one likes a good fight, plain old sacrifice
Dynamite blood shed, no one lived to see the end
All they had to say is they were led the wrong way
And by God's grace they would be saved

I wash down the memory of the crossroads
With a bottle of bloodlust alone in my chateau
Barefoot and donned in bejeweled onyx romance
As still as the night adorned in the finest of crimsons

All I had to say is I was led the wrong way
And by the grace of the lustful Lord I would be saved.
