My Queen -The Wife of Hades - The Fall of the Blackbird
The blood from the rebellion stained the blue sky
The violet refraction reminded me of when my father died
An equestrian accident, they all saw it happen
My mother blind to decency as she clung to his dying hand
The carpet was red and the throne polished gold
The scepter in my hand, a threatening headstone
Grief rains down like shadows in the brightest light
And I can't hide it but maybe I just might
They painted it like it was some mystical paradise
Every maiden in the kingdom wanted to sit by my side
I never felt so naked, even at dinners with my brother
I should've known he was the match to the carnage flame come September
My queen was as gentle as a field of daisies
As loyal as a dog and as fierce as the wife of Hades
She found the moral in her compass and her love in the reason
She was the first to sense the oncoming upheaval
My hands were tied in every which way
My throne room, more of a circus day by day
Rumours left the palace grounds like gold
He snuck into her chambers when I wasn't around
He promised her a life of laughter and glamour
All she needed to do was poison my dinner
He forgot who she was, my only true friend
She betrayed his dependency on her treachery
She called for a ship waiting in her faded shift
Packed all of our things and paid in advance with her rings
Such a fool was I, her pity for me was disguised
But without her candour I may not have survived
As I left the walls meant to protect me
They succumbed to their internal injuries
The smoke rose like a falcon soaring the skies for the first time
And the chant for my head was a canon in the dead of the night.
