Lilith - The Fall of the Blackbird
My guilt is counterfeit and my wounds self-inflicted
They swell and punch my gut and force some kind of confession
And as I wrap my arms around him in comfort
He repels my solace like it's malice haunting a church
The lines start to show, the clothes begin to fall
And all the secrets buried in them fly up to the sun
The poison acts so slow, he wants me to go
Behind him closes the door, I know he knows
My footfall set a fire, crimson flames dance at the pier
When lust and jealousy pour out of the same bottle no one sheds a tear
All the front lines begin to merge into one
Nobody knows who is fighting for whom anymore
The bullet goes in fast, I bleed gold all over the palace floors
He buttons up my coat, says a frugal life isn't for me so
He puts the bottle in my hand, says two drops and he will understand
The absence of immortality in his pretender royal veins
Affection isn't something I tend to yield as a weapon
Pity is a knife I plunge into his unsuspecting heart for good reason
My heart fools me into thinking I married a man and not a king
And when the storm is put to sleep, our ties dissolve in the gray sea
It foams at the mouth and twitches with no sound
It beats against the hull and he doesn't seem to care
He pleads for a chance that all this is a nightmare
And I'm Lilith dancing on the blades of his shoulder as he stares into the blood red sky
Full disclosure, I wasn't prepared to be the villain
But a fool's pride is a price to pay, even if it is forgiven
Even the wildest winds will not make him see reason
That his life is worth more than a pedestal.
