A Sinking Ship - The Fall of the Blackbird
As I attempt to decipher her silence
And the raging tension in the air
I'm brought forth a harrowing loss
Etched in my worst nightmare
Her calm and relieved demeanor
With the incessant scent of a victory
She plays coy but I know better
The extent of her treachery
She can sense I'm being ungrateful
Her heartbeat in sync with the rain
Betrayal is as bitter as revenge
I'm conflicted because who doesn't kill a king?
With my back pinned to the starboard
I curse the angels and the demons alike
She stares content yet fearsome
I feel the urge to speak my mind
Drenched in her pale shift
She confesses her love for me
Says cruelty could have given her
The life she had always dreamed
Alone on the sinking ship
I feel as light as the bloodless mist
For once my words are mine
And not over thought out scripts
At the heights of a rebellion
We're as far as we can be from it
I can't help but understand
The hunger for a peace like this
Ambition thins out prudence
So mine drifts into the amber sky
Hers stays complacent
And as sharp as a hunters knife.
