Pandemonium - The Fall of the Blackbird
The knights returned from battle
Bandaged, body and soul
Head of the ruler in hand
It was a rabid spectacle
Swords crossed until the helm burnt down
The townhouse bedlam climbed over their stone walls
They wait like the bats hanging upside down in the trees
Nightfall comes in light years and the gallows scream
Like the mocking birds of the kings naivety
The children screamed in chorus hiding underneath their beds
Their houses once homes now battles fields instead
"Burn away this memory", they beg
The kings guard were nowhere to be found
Civility began storming castle grounds
The taste of flames on the tip of his tongue
His gilded cage, his worst enemy now
The bottled lighting poured from the sky
And electrified the first of his nine lives
A coup they called it but the enmity, immature
A kingdom is a people even if their ruler falls
Tilt my crown, I dare you through the smoke
There was rage dressed in armour and the tears went down like wine
Mud etched fingers and the motherland joined the fight
Tilt thy crown, and savour every drop of pride
A friend of a friend who knew the emperor
Said it was too late to round up the dogs
He undressed himself in front of his council
And decided his sleep was all that was lacking now
Buried in his linen he slept as sound as he can be
And a thousand miles away a pandemonium stood on its feet
The blue blood rained down on to the city streets
Laboured by the only fight they had ever seen
Tilt thy crown and beg for the life of a simple being
Dawn broke like a starlet on the edge of her opening scene
Swallowed by the veteran Sun, the war began to cease
Tilt thy crown and let it fall to your feet
Buried in his linen, the emperor slept as sound as he could be
And a thousand miles away the pandemonium died in its sleep.
