I've made a mess of this, I must confess
I didn't mean to start a fire but here I am
I've made the great alone my foreboding home
Now I'm covered in the smoke unsure of where to go

I'm not a dauntless soldier, neither am I a good caregiver
I truly have nothing to offer except for my faith in you
The everlasting scent of your memory and your invisible hand granting me clemency
Is the only thing that has got me this far and given me a second chance to rewrite our legacy

If there is one thing I did right by, it was you
If there is one thing you changed in me, you made me bulletproof

I've exhausted all that you've left me to survive 
My bones are reminding me that they exist with my own two eyes
I made august and frivolous promises, I now intend to keep
I've extinguished all the flames I've tamed, I've envisaged outliving my dreams

I don't have the strength of a bear or the roar of a marveled lion
But I possess the greatest gift there is of wanting better for myself 
Your everlasting aura wrapped around me like a safety blanket 
Is the only guiding light to the exodus of my angst

If there is one thing I did right by, it was you
If there is one thing you changed in me, you made me bulletproof

I admit I'm wounded now, afraid of bleeding out
The cuts were sharp and shallow like the waters meant to drown tomorrow 
My soul will soon give way, and my clothes are ready to disintegrate 
That leaves me with an empty shotgun and an excellent aim

I've been practicing with anticipation, for when my consequences come charging at me
Bolting the doors and windows won't do much to save me
But now that I've made it this far with barely any life left 
I take a deep breath and march along while I'm still ahead

I'm not exactly known to go quietly and I don't mean to, honestly
I've left a trail destruction in my wake if you ever need to find me 
I now understand the difference between living in and embracing grief 
It seems the only thing I needed to know if I could do all of this without you

If there is one I did right by, it was you
