The Outside
Did I colour outside the lines too much last night?
Did it make you see me in a different light?
Because I promise you it's just a phase
I'm still me before your rivers ran dry
You wouldn't be able to cut the tension with your sharpest knife
The pressure is unreal, it looks like the northern lights on a summer night
It's taking forever, but I'll be doing alright
Enough to make things seem as shiny as it is on the outside
Did it really seem right to me, or are am I just new to this?
I call it a method to madness
I compartmentalize the things you don't like
It makes it easier to reject it from the life you say is right?
But what is really right to you?
You promised me fields of daisies and you kept it halfway
Sometimes trying says better than getting it right every time
Maybe I've grown too old to care
And too young to be afraid of how it all looks on the outside
Did it really seem right to you, or are you just new to this?
I'm calling it whatever I want
But whenever you feel like it, correct me if I'm wrong
I'll undo the cardigans that kept me warm
And I won't look back as I'm headed home
I'll picture my skies purple as you stand in the headlights
And watch you confront how it was all on the outside
Did it really seem right to us, or are we just new to this?
