Battle - drama

Based On: Outlander by Diana Gabaldon

There's a ringing in my ears from when you called the shots
I play it over in my mind, it's corrupted all my thoughts

Everlasting peace didn't last very long
Cold but undeniable heat
Towards the bullets you fired into my arm

I never backed out of battles with you
I thought it was turbulence of something new
I never realised it was all just for show
You might have won this battle
But I'll win the war
I commanded all the damage to turn into gold
I put out all your fires with my downpour
I never knew who I was fighting for
You might have won this battle
But I'll win the war

There's beds full of people who were brave enough to shield themselves
I'm the lone war nurse tending to their wounds, because no one knows best

Everlasting peace didn't last very long
Warm but what an undeniable cold
Hearted man you've become

I never backed out of battles with you
I thought it was turbulence of something new
I never realised it was all just for show
You might have won this battle
But I'll win the war
I commanded all the damage to turn into gold
I put out all your fires with my downpour
I never knew who I was fighting for
You might have won this battle
But I'll win the war

I chose to leave you but you chose to leave me first
I chose to fix broken bridges and redo all my stitches
I chose to move on and become indifferent
Because closure doesn't always need a conversation
Loaded on laudanum
I showed up with a knife
I take back what I said about prejudice
I was surrounded on all sides in a gunfight
For every ounce of soul I gave you
You gave me nothing at all
Now you expect me to sacrifice myself
In the name of the law

I never backed out of battles with you
I thought it was turbulence of something new
I never realised it was all just for show
You might have won this battle
But I'll win the war
I commanded all the damage to turn into gold
I put out all your fires with my downpour
I never knew who I was fighting for
You might have won this battle
But I'll win the war.
